With the Beurer PO 45 pulse oximeter you can measure your values reliably, easily and painlessly. Oxygen saturation (SpO₂), heart rate (pulse) and infusion index (IP) are presented on the colour display in an easy to read way. In case of incorrect measurement, you will be informed by an icon display so that the measurement can be carried out reliably again.
The body’s oxygen demand
The human body needs about 400 litres of oxygen (O2) per day (source: Rosemarie Baumann, Physiology). Oxygen keeps your body’s cells alive and working. To transport this amount of oxygen, a transport substance, hemoglobin, is required. The hemoglobin contained in red blood cells accumulates oxygen. The organs are then supplied with oxygen through the blood.

How to determine oxygen saturation?
Oxygen saturation can be measured without blood sampling. Blood color allows conclusions to be drawn about oxygen saturation:

• Bright red: high oxygen saturation
• Dark Red: Low Oxygen Saturation

Oxygen saturation provides information on the percentage of hemoglobin in arterial blood that is loaded with oxygen. This is therefore an important parameter for assessing respiratory function. People with a low oxygen saturation value most frequently have the following symptoms: shortness of breath, accelerated heart rate, loss of performance, nervousness and sweating.
A pulse oximeter is useful for at-risk patients such as:

• People with Heart Disease
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases
• Bronchial asthma
• Athletes and healthy people who move at high altitudes (e.g. mountaineers, skiers or sports pilots)

What does the infusion index say?
Infusion index provides information about blood flow in the finger. Depending on the strength of the wrist, it indicates the amount of blood circulating over a certain period of time. It is important to measure the infusion index because too low a value may affect the measurement results . To achieve reliable results, you need to know the normal value. You can find out by taking measures under different conditions, such as activity level or measurement location. In general, the infusion rate can be between 0.3% and 20% , but the optimal value varies from person to person.
Measuring Range
The pulse oximeter can be used in the following measurement range:

• SpO₂: 70-100%, Pulse: 30-250 beats /minute, IP: 0.3-20%

The following measurement accuracy is obtained:

• SpO₂: 70-100%, ±2%, Pulse: 30-250bpm, ±2 beats per minute
• IP: 0.3% – 1%; ±0.2 digit; >1.1% ± 20%

Important: Do not use wrist oximeter with dressings, nail polish or other cosmetics. A measurement can only be taken when the measuring finger is exposed.
